Help with finding a postcode

You can now search for a postcode or address using the Royal Mail Postcode Finder on the Royal Mail website

Once you’re there simply search for an address using the search bar available or follow the instructions below

  1. Start typing a postcode or any part of an address and results will start appearing
  2. The more information you provide, the more you'll narrow your search
  3. You can then scroll through the results to select the address you need

Please note: you can only search for UK addresses using our Postcode Finder

Please let us know if you see an address which looks wrong or needs updating

Search for business addresses

You can also search for business addresses in the same way. If the company name is very common (for example, 'Tesco'), you may need to provide more details such as the town or street name.

Search for a building name

Some homes or business addresses use a name instead of a street number. This name is an 'alias' but every property still has a street address, even if it isn't commonly used. You can use either to search for an address.

For example, 'Media House, London' or '32 Coin Street, London' will give you the same result.

Is the property new?

If the property you're looking for is a new build (or for example a house recently converted into flats), the postcode might not have been added to our database yet. If your address isn't listed please let us know. We'll try to get this fixed as quickly as possible.

If the property isn't new and you still can't find the address or postcode you're looking for, we recommend:

  • Check your spelling and add as much detail as possible about the address to improve the results.
  • If the address you're searching for uses a building name (eg, 'Media House', or 'Seaview Cottage') instead of a street address, we may be unfamiliar with the name. Try searching for the street address if you know it.
  • Don't worry about abbreviations - we accept the most common abbreviations for addresses (eg 'Rd', 'St', 'Ave').

If you still can't see the address you're looking for please report it to us here

Multiple versions of the same address

Sometimes this might happen when an address has a property name and not a number, or has both. You can use either to address mail, but generally it's better to use the property number, rather than name.

There are also occasions when you might see multiple results for a single address, for example a house converted in flats, where the mail is delivered to a single, shared front door. In these cases we show the main property number and street name, and then the property number with the individual flat number. For example, there may be three results; 3 High Street; 3A High Street; and 3B High Street, or 3 High Street; Ground Floor Flat, 3 High Street; and First Floor Flat, 3 High Street.

Technical problems?

If you can't see any results, we recommend trying a different browser - Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 10 or above generally work best with Postcode Finder. You'll be able to see the results on a map if you use Chrome, Safari, Firefox, IE 10 or above (it doesn't work with IE 8 or 9).
